Commissioner of Oath

At the Indigiqueer Circle of Québec, we understand that for many in the 2 Spirit community, the ability to change one's the legal name and gender markers can be a crucial step in expressing and affirming their identity.

We have on-staff Commissioners for Oaths who are authorized to administer oaths and affirmations required in the process of legally changing your name and/or gender markers on official documents. This service is offered in a respectful, supportive, and confidential environment.

Process


Appointment

To begin the process, please schedule an appointment with one of our Commissioners for Oaths.

Once the oath or affirmation is administered, you will receive a signed and sealed document confirming this. This document can then be included in your application for a legal name change or gender marker change.

Documentation

Before your appointment, ensure you have all the necessary documentation for your oath or affirmation. This typically includes the application form for a legal name change or gender marker change, as well as any required identification.

At the Appointment

During the appointment, the Commissioner for Oaths will verify your identity, review your documents, and administer the oath or affirmation. 



Fee

We are committed to making this service accessible to all. The fee for the Commission of Oaths service is on a sliding scale based on income. For those unable to pay, the service is offered free of charge.
